Duo No. 1 (Sonata) explores symmetrical and modal harmonies through a wide variety of textures. Virtuosic in its delivery, the duo is loosely based on the classical sonata form structure, at times alluding to improvisational or free jazz feel. It was premiered by Thomas Tsai (cello) and Daniel Herscovitch (piano) for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in honour of the composer’s 50th birthday in 2005.

Duo No. 2 (Duologue), through the veneer of piano textures similar to early Romantic period, explores harmonies based on symmetrical and asymmetrical sets as can be found in Allan Forte's text The Structure of Atonal Music (Yale, 1973) . As with Duo No. 1, it was premiered by Thomas Tsai (cello) and Daniel Herscovitch (piano) for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in honour of the composer’s 50th birthday in 2005.
